Purpose:

To provide scholarships to indigenous women who are in need of financial assistance, and wish to actively support their communities through pursuing studies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Guyana (UG).

• Deadline for scholarship applications is September 20, 2023, 23:59hrs (No exceptions).
• Refer to the criteria below for eligibility requirements.
• Refer to the application process below for a list of the supporting documents needed (i.e., references, evidence of GPA, etc.) Incomplete applications will not be considered.
• If a question does not apply to you, please put N/A in the space provided.
• You will be notified by mail regarding the status of your application.
• The SBM Offshore Guyana policy is to renew scholarships to students that have maintained a GPA average above 3.2, continue to demonstrate positive attributes exhibited on the previous scholarship application(s), and reapply each year meeting all criteria.

Criteria:

All applicants must be Guyanese indigenous women either as:

• A new entrant with an admittance letter from the University of Guyana or,
• Second-year continuing student with a GPA of at least 3.2, majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of how your studies will enhance your career growth and contribution in Guyana.
• Consideration will be given to candidates who are involved in at least one community development initiative.

Application Process:

Applicant must submit the following items:

1. Completed application form
2. Two (2) letters of recommendation from the Toshao and any other; high school teachers, administrators, employers, or individuals with significant knowledge of your experience and involvement.
3. An official and recent university transcript with cumulative grade point average.
4. Personal essay: In your essay, please describe yourself and how you have worked in your life to make a positive difference in your community.
